Irradiation treatment is a method of treatment developed in 1960 in USA, and first applied by NASA in 1972 to treat the food for travel mission. The key purpose is to kill bacteria(if any) in food. Now at our factory, we use the gamma ray from the irradiator “Cobalt 60” as the main source in the technology for treatment purposes.

They key purpose of this treatment is to clean products, improve and prolong the self- life of products. Example, In fresh fruits, the gamma ray kill pests, insects and parasite…delay ripening and prolong the self-life of the fruits.

There is a wide applicable of the irradiation, the common use is for treatment of Fresh Fruits, Seafood, Meat, bird and its products, Agriculture items like grains, bean, pepper, cashew, trees, roots, dried or fresh vegetable…The most common appliance is for treat fresh fruit since it not only kill the pests or insects, but also delay the ripening process of the fruits.

Currently, our capacity is some 120tons/day. In addition, we also have one irradiation branch at Binh Minh Industrial Zone, Vinh Long Province (next to Can Tho Bridge) with a capacity of 150 tons / day.

The technology of food treatment by irradiation have been widely approved by many named Organizations: World Health Organization (WHO), The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), United States Food & Drug Administration (US FDA).

No, the irradiation process kill insects, pests… by Gamma ray, not by heat, so It does not affect to quality of foods or vitamin content inside the food. So, sometimes, people called this as “cool treatment”.

The United States want to keep the agriculture industry safe from imported goods, so the Irradiation treatment for fresh fruit is required before shipping to United States. The Animal Plant & Health Inspection Service (APHIS) is the only organization to control this process (from the farm to the dish). Beside, Australia, New Zealand may study to apply this soon. There are over more than 40 countries have approved irradiation as a top useful voluntary treatment methods.

Before the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) clear the goods (of Food & Drug items), the goods need to pass to the FDA Inspection (Food & Drug Administration), for the fresh fruit, FDA also required the Irradiation Certificate to certify that shipment has passed irradiation process in exporting country. The APHIS of USDA (United States of Department of Agriculture) is the only agency who can issue this certificate, this certificate goes with the factory irradiation certificate, and also the Phytosanitary Certificate of PPD (Plant Protection Department) of exporting country.

When sending the goods to our factory, we will make all paper work for you to get these certificate immediately as the treatment processes finish. Our people work with US APHIS and Vietnam PPD here, in our office to issue this certificate. So you need not to worry about that process. You will get these certificates in 01 (one) day at our company.
